So you're taking the monitos mix from the house to the M/D recrder then out to your IEM's? The signal from the house is mono right?

Exactly. I'm getting a monitor mix (mono) back from the soundman to a single channel on the MD.

I?m thinking about getting some IEMs with custom molds ?maybe the Sensaphonic ER-6s or Shure E2s. It sounds like the next step up from there would cost me some big $$.

It?s typically a small venue situation with hit-and-miss monitor mixes. I play with tracks on a few tunes, so I typically get a monitor return from the board into a mini-disk multi-track recorder. Right now I take my headphones on and off for the tunes with tracks, but I would like to use IEMs plugged into the mini-disk for my monitors all the time. From previous posts here, it sounds like a good monitor mix is absolutely critical for this to work, and that there are some issues with bass response on the IEMs as well.

Would I be better off to just get some custom earplugs for hearing protection and deal with the headphones for the tunes with tracks? Any recommendations?
